SOUTHEND United’s youth team coach Dave Huzzey are keen to make history this weekend.

The Shrimpers’ under 18 side take on Exeter City in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup southern section final at Boots & Laces tomorrow.

And Huzzey insists Blues are desperate to make it through to the national final for the first time ever.

“It is a cup final tomorrow but we’re treating it as a semi-final because we have our sights set on making it through to the national final,” said Huzzey.

“We’ve never been that far before so it would be a great achievement.

“The boys have done really well to get this far and we’ve had some great wins, including a Premier League side in Bournemouth.

“But we want to get another one now to make sure we’re in the national final.”

However, Huzzey knows Exeter will be tough to beat.

“Exeter are normally in the top Merit League like ourselves so we’ve played them quite a few times over the years,” said Huzzey.

“We know it will be a difficult game but it’s one we’re looking forward to.”

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 11am.
