SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell has challenged Michael Klass to build on his lively cameo against Charlton Athletic.
Klass twice came close to scoring in the closing stages at the Valley after entering the action as a second half substitute.
But Powell now wants the 20-year-old midfielder to show he can impress for a whole game.
"It’s a bit different when you come on towards the end to when you’re starting but he showed what he can do when he came on at Charlton," said Powell.
"He’s been patient and he’s been in and out the squad which is what it's like with all young players.
"But he could have won us the game twice and it was a good cameo.
"He will have a part to play and it was good for him to come and do what he did.
"The next question is if he starts can he do it for a whole game but if not he will have to make an impact off the bench just like he did on Saturday and Michael Turner and Stephen McLaughlin did too."
Klass has played nine times for Blues this season but Saturday's appearance was his first since facing Colchester United in the Checkatrade Trophy back in October.
