MICHAEL Klass insists he has never been hungrier to succeed at Southend United.

The 20-year-old midfielder made his first League start when the Shrimpers visited Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

And, despite suffering a 3-0 defeat, Klass remains determined to make more appearances.

“It was a disappointing result and it didn’t make for the best first start but I went to bed dreaming about the game and I’m so hungry to get more games now,” said Klass.

“Whether or not I’ll stay in the side for Saturday’s game with Portsmouth I don’t know but I was excited to play at Doncaster and tried to be as confident as possible.

“Hopefully I’ll get another opportunity soon and can help the team get a better result.”

Klass has now made 12 appearances for Blues' first team.

But he is still seeking his first goal, despite going close on several occasions.

"I've hit the bar three times now and had a couple of chances at Charlton too," said Klass.

"I should probably have scored with one of them but hopefully my first goal will come soon."
