RUGBY: Greg Bannister feels there will be ‘added spice’ when Westcliff head to Brentwood last weekend.

Westcliff make the short trip sitting third in the London & SE Premier Division standings.

And Bannister is determined to secure another victory.

“It’s not really a local derby but it’s still an Essex derby so I’m sure there will be a bit of added spice to it, especially with them being at home,” said Bannister.

“I doubt they will want to lose so it should make for a fun afternoon.”

Westcliff will be without a number of key players who are away on a stag do this weekend.

But Bannister is confident Westcliff have the strength in depth to be able to cope.

“It will be difficult but we’ve had players out before and people have come in and stepped up so I don’t think it’s a massive issue,” said Bannister.

“We have enough players who have played at this level to know what is needed.”

Brentwood are currently second from bottom in the standings but Bannister is still expecting a difficult afternoon.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Bannister.

“They play with big forwards and have some sharp backs when they get it wide so we will have to play well and hopefully we will get the win at the end of it”

But Westcliff will be going into the game full of confidence after beating Guildford 32-10 last time out.

“It was important to win especially as we were at home,” said Bannister.

“We probably left a few points out there if we are honest but considering the conditions we were happy to get the win against a good team.

“We just want to win every game and whatever happens, happens. But we just focus on ourselves at the moment and try to put in performances we can be proud of.”
