KANE Vincent-Young has been described as a 'mainstay' for Colchester United after he reached a milestone for the club.

The 22-year-old has racked up a century of league appearances for the U's.

Vincent-Young played his 100th Football League game for the U’s in their 1-1 draw at Macclesfield Town, last weekend.

He made his Colchester debut back in August 2015, after joining them from Spurs’ academy.

Vincent-Young has since established himself as a regular under U's boss John McGreal, who is delighted with the versatile full-back’s progression.

McGreal said: “It’s brilliant for Kane.

“There was obviously interest in him in the summer but we really made an effort to keep him.

“When big clubs come in, we don’t want to stand in anyone’s way but we always made it clear to him we wanted him to stay.

“He’s got a wide range of roles to perform and he can play full-back on both sides and wing-back on both sides.

“The goals he’s scored recently have been really good.

“He’s been the mainstay in his position and credit to him.”

Colchester play host to fellow promotion hopefuls Carlisle United on Saturday, with boss McGreal set to assess his central midfield options ahead of the League Two clash.

The U’s are set to be without the sidelined Harry Pell again for the visit of the Cumbrians, while Tom Lapslie limped out of the Macclesfield draw with a hamstring injury.

Diaz Wright replaced Lapslie early in the second half at the Moss Rose and McGreal said he was an able replacement.

He said: “Diaz has been out of the fold a little bit but we know what he can do.

“We were mulling over him or Louis (Dunne) on the bench all week.

“And with Laps struggling this week we thought it was wise to put Diaz on there, a natural sitting midfielder.

“I thought he picked the heat of the game up quite well.”

Meanwhile, Frank Nouble is expected to continue to lead the line for Colchester against Carlisle, on Saturday.

The former West Ham United youngster has scored three goals in as many games for the U’s, since switching to a central attacking position.

Nouble has spent most of the season playing in a wide attacking position but the arrival of Abo Eisa and

McGreal added: “Frank’s led the line well, of late.

“Different personnel have moved around within the team.”
