ADAM Coombes is eager to score the goals to fire Billericay Town to promotion.

Coombes made the move to the AGP Arena in the summer and has scored 15 goals for the club this season.

Seven of those goals have come since the turn of the year and the striker is eager to maintain his fine form in front of goal.

“I’m really happy with my form,” said Coombes, who netted in the 2-0 win over Eastbourne Borough at the weekend.

“I’m getting the goals and we are also getting the points now, which is the main thing.

“We’re getting towards the business end of the season, so it’s important to get the points and performances.

“It’s important to have that momentum at this stage of the season if you are to win promotion, so hopefully I can score the goals to get us into the National League.

“I am paid to score goals and I have done it since I was a kid, so I’m confident that I’ll continue to score the goals for Billericay.”

Having joined the club from Welling United in the summer, the striker’s his first goal came against his former club from the penalty spot in August.

However, Coombes failed to find the back of the net again before being allowed to return to Welling - for a third spell - on loan in September.

And Coombes believes the loan move proved dividends as he has returned to the AGP Arena in potent form.

“I was playing before the new manager (Dean Brennan) came in and he told me that I wouldn’t be getting many minutes,” added the 27-year-old former Chelsea trainee.

“Because of that I asked to go out on loan as I’m not one of those players who is happy to just sit on the bench.

“I want to be involved and the loan move paid off because I have come back, got games and scored goals for Billericay.

“I have been working hard and when we had Robbo (Jake Robinson), I had to drop deeper.

“Now I have been getting to play up top as a number nine and getting more chances.

“That is my natural position and I’m really enjoying my football at the moment.”

Coombes also hailed the impact returning boss Harry Wheeler and player-coach Jamie O’Hara have made at the club.

“They have been great since they came in,” admitted Coombes.

“I know the manager from before and we are getting results, while training is sharp as well.”
