MICHAEL Turner insisted Southend United were disappointed to secure just a share of the spoils at Accrington Stanley.

Stephen Humphrys’ opener for Blues was cancelled out by Accrington’s Dan Barlaser after the break.

But Turner felt Chris Powell’s side should have returned home with more than just a point.

“We’re in there feeling slightly disappointed not to have come away with three points,” said Turner, 35.

“Going ahead gave us something to hold on to and build on.

“I felt throughout the game that we maybe could have extended that lead but it wasn’t to be.

“We got into some decent areas where we felt as though we could have done a bit better with our final pass or finish maybe.

“But to come here and be disappointed with a point shows we’re moving in the right direction I think.”

The draw kept the Shrimpers 13th in the League One standings, seven points above the relegation zone.

But Turner is keen for Blues to work their way back up the table.

“We want to keep building,” said the experienced defender.

“We’ve had a few disappointing performances and results, especially at home and we need to address that between now and the end of the season. We have 12 games to go and we want to finish as strongly as we can.”

However, Blues have now not won in their last six games and face another tough looking test at home to second placed Barnsley on Saturday.

“We need that win soon,” said Turner.

“We weren’t far off here but it wasn’t to be and we’ll go again next week.

“It’s another tough game for us against Barnsley but we’ll prepare right and be ready for it.”

And Turner is also keen to help the Shrimpers get back on track by rediscovering his goalscoring form.

The defender has gone close to scoring his first goal of the season in Blues’ last few outings and he remains determined to hit the back of the net.

“It’s not falling for me right now,” said Turner, who scored four goals in 26 appearances last term.

“Last season it did but this year it’s been quiet for me so far,

“It happens like that sometimes but I do tend to score when I play a few games so hopefully I’ll chip in with a couple before the end of the season to help the team get more points.”

Second placed Barnsley drew 0-0 with promotion rivals Portsmouth at the weekend.
