STEPHEN Humphrys secured a point for Southend United at Accrington Stanley with a goal he did not remember scoring on Saturday.

Humphrys suffered a broken nose and concussion when clattering into Stanley shot-stopper Jonny Maxted while heading the Shrimpers in front.

But the striker - who was stretchered off after a lengthy spell of treatment and immediately taken to hospital - had no recollection of the painful incident.

“I didn’t even know I’d scored,” tweeted Humphrys after the game.

“I’m sure it will make my recovery a little bit easier but it was worth it.

“Thanks to everyone for the kind messages and thank you to the travelling fans for the unreal support.

“It doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Humphrys headed home a long clearance from Blues goalkeeper Nathan Bishop for his fourth goal in seven games since signing.

But Blues boss Chris Powell fears the striker will now be spending a fortnight on the sidelines.

“It was very brave from Stephen for the goal but he’s paid for it with a broken nose and concussion,” said Powell.

“It’s more than likely he will be out for a couple of weeks now.

“His family were here and he’s from up this way but he was taken to hospital and hopefully he will be OK.”

Humphrys’ header was cancelled out by Accrington’s Dan Barlaser as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
