ROCHFORD Hundred survived their toughest test of the season so far to win 24-23 at North Walsham.

Hundred, who have yet to lose a game in London One North this term, found themselves 13-5 down before coming back to triumph.

And Rochford’s skipper Harry Hudson was thrilled with the spirit shown by his side.

“They were able to put us under immense pressure through their defensive efforts and their ability to attack us out wide,” said Hudson.

“We were under pressure for large amounts of the game.

“But, saying that, they scored one breakaway try and scored one good one.

“They built a score when they got penalties and fully deserved their points.

“Without a doubt it was the hardest challenge of the year so it was good to come through it.

“They had a good crowd who weren’t afraid to voice their opinion and they were throwing the kitchen sink at us but we were able to figure a way to win.”

And Hudson insists the table-toppers remain determined to end the season unbeaten.

“It was satisfying as for us there wasn’t much to play for other than a perfect season now so you could argue some people would take a day off,” said Hudson.

“But we got the job done.

“It’s important not to have a feeling of accomplishment yet as the league hasn’t been mathematically won and we have other goals to achieve yet.

“Plus the boys are still chasing my 22 tries so we will be looking to score some points.”

Third-placed Walsham opened the scoring with a penalty and try to lead 10-0.

Rochford hit back with the fit-again James Kellard touching down for a try before Walsham went further clear with another penalty.

Hundred replied with a try from Chris Dudman to cut the hosts’ lead to 13-10 at half-time but Walsham scored first in the second period to lead 20-10.

But Rochford were able to regroup with Sonny Gay scoring a try Dudman converted.

And the visitors then went in front with captain Hudson crashing over.

Walsham hit back with a penalty to cut Hundred’s lead to a single point but the visitors held on to triumph.
