DRU Yearwood is hoping history can be repeated as he attempts to rediscover his best form for Southend United.

The 19-year-old shone for the Shrimpers towards the end of the previous campaign.

And, after enduring a frustrating season so far, Yearwood is determined to again sign off for the summer on a high.

“It was probably about this time last season that I came into the team and things started to go well so I’m hoping that can happen again,” said the youngster.

“The sending off at Charlton was frustrating for me and so was the suspension which came with it. But it had been frustrating for me before that anyway.

“I have been playing so badly and I’ve been upset and disappointed about that.

“I’ve been trying hard to get back to the way I know I can play but it just hasn’t happened.

“It’s been tough to deal with.

“I know people say you have ups and downs in your career and it’s part of a learning curve but I would rather I hadn’t had to have gone through it so early on.

“But I just have to keep on working hard and maybe the suspension might turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

“I certainly hope it will be.”

Yearwood, who also missed the start of the season with a hamstring problem, returned to action as a late substitute against Barnsley at the weekend. And the midfielder remains disappointed the Shrimpers were unable to get back to winning ways as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Roots Hall.

“We were poor and we didn’t play well but we were also playing against a really good team,” said Yearwood.

“But that’s in the past now and we’re looking forward to the Blackpool game at the weekend.”

Blues, who have not won in seven games, will be making the trip north sitting 13th in the League One standings.

However, Chris Powell’s side are now just four points above the relegation zone and Yearwood is desperate for the Shrimpers to get back on track.

“It’s a tough game at the weekend but I think we can go there and win,” said Yearwood.

“We’ve had some good results away from home against some good teams and we need to go and get another one now.”
