BASILDON United conceded an injury time winner as Felixstowe & Walton United snatched a 1-0 victory in John Sussex’s first encounter in charge of the Bees.

It looked as though Basildon were going to return to south Essex with a point, but Josh Kerridge claimed the winner in the dying moments.

And Sussex felt his side deserved to clinch a share of the spoils.

“I was generally pleased,” said Sussex.

“We worked on a gameplan and it worked really well for the 90 minutes.

“It was only a scrambled goal in injury time that cost us a well-deserved point, so that’s frustrating.

“But I’m still quite pleased with the performance.”

The Bees got off to a promising start and Joe Turpin nodded a good chance over the crossbar.

Basildon goalkeeper Joshua Strizovic denied Darren Mills, while Felixstowe custodian Jack Spurling stopped one of his team-mates putting through his own net.

Spurling frustrated Bees debutant Eli Benoit after the interval and the save proved crucial as Kerridge scored a late winner for the hosts.
