ROB Small ended his Bury Town hoodoo as Bowers & Pitsea moved to within 10 points of the Isthmian North title with a 5-1 win.

Small had never seen his side even score a goal at Ram Meadow before the weekend.

So the Bowers chief was pleased to see braces from David Knight and Max Cornhill, along with a solitary effort from Lewis Manor, ensure an 11th consecutive victory.

Small said: “I had never seen my team score a goal at Bury before.

“I’ve never gone there and got a positive result, so to go there and score five goals of the highest quality was absolutely fantastic.

“We put in a really good all-round performance and my players are relentless.

“Bury may think that the scoreline was harsh on them and, on another day, the game may have been a bit tighter.

“But David missed out on a first half hat-trick as he missed a penalty and so we could have scored more goals.

“Max Cornhill’s first goal was one of the best I have ever seen. It was a phenomenal goal.”

Knight put Bowers in the ascendancy with two goals in the space of six minutes.

But Bury responded as Ollie Hughes halved the deficit with 37 minutes played.

Knight then missed out on the chance to complete a first half hat-trick.

After Bury goalkeeper Luis Tibbles had upended Cornhill, the referee wasted no time in pointing to the spot.

But Knight sent his effort from 12 yards wide just before the break.

Cornhill restored Bowers' two-goal advantage with a volley soon before the hour mark.

The midfielder then completed his brace before Manor added his name to the scoresheet to round off a fine win.
