SOUTHEND Manor claimed local bragging rights as they beat Essex Senior League title chasers Hullbridge Sports 2-0 at a wind-swept Chadfields.

Michael Ogboin grabbed both goals from the penalty spot to ease Manor’s relegation fears.

Although the triumph has taken Manor 10 points clear of the bottom two, boss Adam Peek insists his side are not safe yet.

Peek said: “The conditions were difficult and it was one of those games where the team that fancied it more were going to win the game.

“Our gameplan was very simple because we knew they would want to impose themselves on the game.

“My boys were up for it and put their bodies on the line.

“Our performance was very strong and it’s a massive three points for us, but we still need more points to ensure that we are safe.

“In the last four games, we have won two, drawn one and lost one.

“We have also kept three clean sheets in that time, so hopefully we will see similar performances between now and the end of the season.”

James Wakeling was frustrated to see Hullbridge lose ground on current league leaders Stansted.

The assistant manager said: “It’s a tough one to take.

“The performance wasn’t there at all. If we carried on playing until Christmas, I don’t think we would have scored.”
