CONCORD Rangers have paid tribute to former striker Mike Thalassitis, who has tragically died at the age of 26.

Thalassitis was been found dead in woodlands in Edmonton, North London, on Friday.

The ex-frontman spent less than a month with Concord in 2016 and the National League South club were saddened to hear of Thalassitis’ passing.

A club statement said: “The club are saddened to hear the passing of former Concord Rangers player Mike Thalassitis.

“Everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this hard time.”

Beach Boys chairman Ant Smith also took to social media to pay tribute to Thalassitis.

Thalassitis, who was also capped at international level by Cyprus at under-19 and under-21 level, made the move to the Aspect Arena from Chelmsford City in January 2016.

However, less than a month after joining the Beach Boys, Thalassitis swapped Concord for St Albans City.

Canvey Island boss Mark Bentley played alongside Thalassitis, who sprung into the spotlight after being involved in the hit ITV show Love Island, at Hayes & Yeading United and Boreham Wood.

And Bentley took to social media shortly after his Canvey side lost to Dereham Town.

Bentley tweeted: “Head loss and frustration among many more words to express feelings toward football at the moment.

“But fortunate enough to be healthy and mentally strong to get through a tough period. All that put into perspective right there on tragic news of the loss of a former team-mate. RIP Thala.”
