RON Martin has vowed to put things right at Southend United.

The Shrimpers’ winless streak extended to 11 games with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

But Blues were roared on by 916 travelling fans at London Road and chairman Martin was keen to thank them for their ongoing support.

“I wish to thank all our loyal fans for making the trip to Peterborough and I am bitterly disappointed we couldn’t give them something to celebrate,” said Martin.

“More than 900 supporters were in outstanding voice even before kick-off and did their best to motivate the team in drowning out the home fans.

“I have said previous that our club has great support and I shall always do what I can to reward that support in return.

“As everyone knows, the investment in the squad and management has been strong, the fifth highest in the League, and the current League position is not what either Chris or I anticipated.

“All the reasons impacting on performances have been spoken about many times.

“It is therefore especially important that I, as I wish to, publicly recognise the fantastic supporters this club has and ask you to stay with us, we will get it right.”

Blues remain 20th in the League One standings and sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

But Martin is confident the club are still facing a bright future.

“Off the field progress with the council is good and once we get the elections out of the way the club’s planning application will, we hope, very shortly thereafter be presented to committee,” said Martin.

“With the council’s support this club’s future is extremely bright. Destiny will be in our hands and together we can, at last, fulfil this club’s potential.

“However, for now my immediate focus is on ensuring we remain in League One and bringing those injured players back in the fold to help our cause.

“With a fully fit squad and further recruits we will be well placed to launch an assault next season.

“Bring on Shrewsbury and, again, thanks to you all.

“Your support is massive to us.”
