SOUTHEND United's fans have been having their say on Chris Powell's departure as the club's manager.

An online Echosport has also shown 71 per cent of the supporters agreed with the decision.

Ron very rarely sacks managers, so it that sense it is a bit of a shock, especially after the vote of confidence last week. However, every other club would have done the same thing, just probably a bit sooner

@mattadlington

The only surprise is the timing. It should've happened about 10 minutes after the Wimbledon final whistle. It's sad to see, but ultimately the negative tactics and the negative demeanour he now possesses has hurtled us towards League 2.

@andrew_Shrimper

Sad in a way as loved the idea of a legend of the club and hugely respected man managing Southend. But it is the right decision, all evidence suggested we were going down under him.

@moorhouse79

Injuries became a constant excuse for him not managing the players properly on the pitch, done a few weeks too late in my opinion.

@bradcooper71696

Desperately sorry for Chris and the bad luck with injuries this season. however, the game is results based, things were just not working. This is the right decision for the Club regardless of how we feel about Chris Powell as a person and how much of a legend he was as a player.

@kaylalula

Gutted really. It’s worse that the decision was expected and understandable. He’s been dealt a harsh hand with all the injuries, but they’ve ultimately got on top of him and broke him, and the performances showed. I wanted him to succeed more than any Southend manager before him.

@obiWesKenobi

Ridiculous. How’s a guy meant to manage a team with the injuries we have?

@sportchippers

Very sad but inevitable. Wish him all the best for the future.

@simon_dodd

Right decision. Maybe should’ve of done it a few weeks earlier but there’s still a few weeks left to avoid the drop. Didn’t see anything changing under Powell, injures and bad tactics aside the records this season 11 home defeats, winless in 11 are absolutely shocking

@nikitheshrimper

It’s all a bit too late. With only seven games left, we expect a new manager to come in and turn it around? This should have been done weeks ago. The next few games are key.

@robbgray

Any managers job should be reviewed given the current run and position but it does feel harsh considering the support received by RM last week. My preference would have been an experienced head to come in for support until the end of the season & his job up for tender in the summer

@nayloronfire

Had the wrong body language and looked a defeated man

@simoncooper99

Absolutely the right decision! Four points from a possible 33 is woeful! If anything, too late!

@djsmale

Shame it didn't work out for Chris. Always came across as a lovely man and obviously wanted the best for the club but this is the right decision.

@jamesburton90

To be honest it’s been coming and I think CP knew that. Injuries only hide so much. Hopefully we can get a little jolt from this and move forward points wise in the next few games. Need Cox for for the weekend as Shrewsbury is a massive game
