SCRUM-HALF Henry Morrant feels Westcliff can still win promotion from the London & SE Premier Division this season.

Third-placed Westcliff head to seventh-placed CS Stags 1863 this weekend.

And Morrant is keen for them to keep the pressure on the top two.

“If a couple of results go our way and we can score plenty of tries, then promotion is definitely possible,” said Morrant.

“Wimbledon and Sutton have still got to play each other, so points will be dropped by someone.

“We’ve just got to try and win our last three matches well.”

Westcliff are currently five points behind second-placed Wimbledon and eight behind league leaders Sutton & Epsom.

But Westcliff’s hopes of success were boosted by a 17-13 win against Bedford Athletic last weekend which saw them get back on track after two successive defeats.

“It was a tough match, with both teams wanting to throw the ball around in some decent weather but it was really good to get the win,” said Morrant.

“It is brilliant to be up near the top, winning most weeks and it’s been a good season for us so far.

“It’s been a tough last month but we want to finish the season strongly, starting with a win tomorrow.”

But Morrant is expecting another testing afternoon away from home.

“We’re expecting a big pack from CS but hopefully with the weather picking up we should be able to move the ball around as well as we know we can and get another good victory,” said Morrant.
