KEVIN Bond felt Southend United played like they were ‘already doomed’ during this afternoon’s 2-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers at Roots Hall.
The Shrimpers rarely threatened during Bond’s first home game in charge.
And the 61-year-old did not hold back in his criticism of the display.
“It was hugely disappointing,” said Bond.
“It’s surprised me after a good display last week at Fleetwood.
“We didn’t show the right attributes.
“Wycombe outfought us and outworked us.
“They showed a greater desire and got to everything first.
“We played today like we were doomed and had accepted the situation and we just can’t have that anymore.”
The defeat made it 14 matches without a win for the Shrimpers and saw them slip to 22nd in the standings with just four games to go.
And Bond is fully aware the fans would have been frustrated by the performance.
“The fans will go away accusing the players of not applying themselves properly and quite rightly.
“The performance was unacceptable even before Wycombe scored.
“They were better than us in many aspects of the game.
“Of course there’s still hope but there isn’t if we keep on playing like that.”
