How did the players fare in Sunderland's 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers?
SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):
6 McLaughlin: Made an important first-half punch from Whiteman’s cross, but was a spectator for much of the afternoon
7 O’Nien: As committed as ever down the right-hand side, winning challenges and working tirelessly to close down his man
7 Ozturk: Handed his first league start since early September, and responded with a committed and aggressive display
8 Dunne: Restored to the starting side for the first time in a month, and was much better than Sunderland’s defenders had been a week earlier
7 Oviedo: Made a series of dangerous overlapping runs, and almost scored with a second-half shot that hit the post
8 Cattermole: Provided the defensive security that was so badly lacking six days earlier – cut off the supply to the Doncaster attack
7 Power: Dovetailed neatly with Cattermole and covered a lot of ground at the heart of the Sunderland midfield
7 Morgan: Broke the deadlock with a crisp low finish and came close on a number of other occasions in an impressive display
6 Honeyman: Still doesn’t look a complete natural in the ‘number ten’ role, but his work-rate and attitude cannot be questioned
8 McGeady: Continues to look a cut above at League One level – set up Morgan’s opener with an excellent cross
8 WYKE: Led the line superbly and is becoming an increasingly influential figure – took his tally to four in all competitions
Subs:
Gooch (for McGeady, 75)
Grigg (for Wyke, 77)
Leadbitter (for Power, 89)
(not used): Ruiter (gk), Flanagan, Hume, Maguire.
DONCASTER (4-3-3):
Marosi 4; Blair 5, Downing 4, Butler 4, Andrew 5; Kane 5, Whiteman 4 (Crawford 46, 5), Rowe 5; WILKS 6 (Smith 83), Marquis 5, Coppinger 4 (May 46, 4).
Subs (not used): Jones (gk), Anderson, Sadlier, Lewis.
Man Of The Match: CHARLIE WYKE – Scored one goal and set up the other – it has taken him a while to settle in to life at Sunderland, but he is certainly making his mark now.
