ROY McDONOUGH promises to give Southend United fans the "same value for money he gave them as a player" at Westcliff's Palace Theatre on Monday night.

The legendary Roots Hall hardman – who played 242 games for Blues, scoring 40 times, during the 80s and 90s – will be on stage for his Football Mavericks show with talkSport's Paul Hawksbee at 8pm.

McDonough, now 60, enjoyed a colourful career, clocking up an England record 22 red cards in the process, and he promises to bring the same passion to the Palace Theatre on Monday.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone as Southend United is a massive part of my life," said the former targetman, who will also be at the Roots Hall clash with Burton.

"I know I wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but one thing I always did was give my all on the pitch and get the shirt wet... no matter how many beers I'd had the night before.

"I'd scare the life out of modern-day defences, if I got through the warm-up. And I think the likes of Richard Cadette and David Crown would probably get 50 goals a season off me now.

"There's going to be just as much carnage at the Palace Theatre on Monday, we'll have a few beers, tell a few stories, and have a few laughs. And nothing's off limits. You'll get a straight answer to everything."

Tickets will be available on the door at the Palace Theatre on Monday or call 01702 351135 to book.
