SOUTHEND United fans could be seeing double when two Freddy Eastwoods take to the Roots Hall pitch next month.

Eastwood senior remains a Shrimpers legend after firing Steve Tilson’s team to the title back in 2006.

And the 35-year-old could be joined by his son Freddy, who is currently in Blues’ youth team, for the final few minutes of the Sid Bloomfield Trophy against Colchester United.

“I struggle quite badly with my knees but I’m going to go back in the gym ahead of this game and I’m sure it won’t be a problem to play the last few minutes alongside my son,” said Eastwood, who bagged 25 goals during the memorable 2005/06 season.

“Freddy was very young when we won the League and I can remember carrying him around the pitch as part of the celebrations at the final whistle.

“To play a few minutes alongside him would be fantastic, especially at Roots Hall, where as a family we already have so many great moments.

“This would be right up there as well though because I’ve obviously never played in a game alongside him and I can make him do the running!

“I’ll have to see how my knees are because I don’t want to risk them going wrong again and needing an operation.

“But right now I’m confident it will be fine to play the last five minutes or so and I’m really looking forward to the night.”

Eastwood will be joined by a number of his former team-mates for the charity clash, which is being held on Monday, May 20 to raise funds for Havens Hospices as part of ex-Shrimpers skipper Adam Barrett and Echosport reporter Chris Phillips’ fundraising for the London Marathon which takes place this Sunday.

Darryl Flahavan, Kevin Maher, Mark Gower and Tilson are among the star names who will be in action against the Colchester side which finished in second place during a memorable season for Essex football.

And Eastwood is certain the night will bring back a lot of good memories.

“We had a good squad and a really good spirit so it’s going to be great to see everyone again,” said Eastwood.

“I hope we can get a good crowd to raise loads of money for such a good cause.

“I’m excited about it and hope it will be the first of many appearances for Freddy at Roots Hall.

“I would love it for the roles to be reversed and for me to watch him play for the first team.

“He’s been doing well in the youth team and hopefully he’ll get a chance to play soon.

“I’m also desperate for the team to stay up.”

Tickets for the Sid Broomfield Trophy cost £5 adults and £1 concessions and are available on the Shrimpers Trust website here and from Blues’ ticket office at Roots Hall for cash only.
