SOUTHEND United legends Adam Barrett and Steve Tilson are hoping for more Roots Hall highs when the duo reunite next week.

The Shrimpers 2006 League One winning team will be back together for Monday’s Sid Broomfield Trophy clash against the Colchester United team that finished second that season.

And Barrett - who will be in the Blues’ ticket office alongside Tilson this Thursday - cannot wait to be back with his former team-mates,

“It was a really special group and it’s been great to be back in contact with them all ahead of this game,” said the former Blues defender.

“I hadn’t spoken to some of them for probably 12 years or so and it’s brought back some great memories.

“I’m sure Monday will make more memories but I’m not sure the game will be quite as fast as people were used to back in the day!

“A few of the lads have put on a bit of timber and I hope everyone will still fit in the kit but it’s all for a fantastic cause and it’s all good fun too.

“It will be played in the right spirit but it might be my last chance to kick a few Colchester players!

Close to 750 tickets have now been sold the game which is taking place at Roots Hall on Monday.

And Tilson is also looking forward to the occasion.

“It was such a brilliant time for the club and everyone involved with it so this is going to be brilliant on Monday,” said Tilson.

“It’s quite scary to think how long ago it actually was now.

“But this will bring back so many memories and the best thing is it’s all for such a good cause too.

“I hope we get a good number of fans along too and raise as much money as we can for Havens Hospices.

“I’m sure both teams will still want to win as well.

“But it’s going to be something really good to be a part of so we’re all looking forward to it.

Prices for Monday’s match, which kicks off at 7.30pm, have been set at £5 adults and £1 concessions.

Tilson and Barrett will also both be in the Blues ticket office between 4pm and 5pm this Thursday to meet fans buying tickets for the Sid Broomfield Trophy.
