ADAM Hickey is celebrating the first senior Great Britain track call-up of his career - at the age of 31.
The Southend-based athlete has been selected in the squad for the European 10,000m Cup at Parliament Hill in London next month.
And the in-form Hickey cannot wait to race.
“After setting road 5km and 10km personal bests in the last seven weeks I’m looking forward to transferring it onto the track,” said Hickey, a former Southend High School pupil.
“This just goes to show that age is just a number and that it’s never too late to progress and set personal bests.”
Hickey, who is coached by Eamonn Martin, also ran for Great Britain at the World Cross Country Championships in Denmark in March.
