SOUTHEND United manager Kevin Bond insists he is hard at work looking to strengthen the Shrimpers squad.

Blues, who avoided relegation on the final day of last season, currently have just two fit defenders in their squad and have made just one signing so far this summer, bringing in striker Brandon Goodship from Weymouth.

But Bond is determined to bring in more new faces.

“I know it must seem like it’s quite quiet but that’s definitely not the case behind the scenes,” said Bond.

“We’re talking to players and we’re very busy trying to make signings.

“I just don’t like to release any details or speculation until a transfer is completed.”
