BILLERICAY skipper Lee Knight was full of smiles after seeing his side secure a thrilling one run win against Buckhurst Hill.

Billericay have now secured back to back wins in the Premier Division.

And Knight was quick to praise his players.

"It was a very good game of cricket," said Knight.

"Both sides' innings mirrored each other in that we both lost wickets early on and rebuilt in the middle period.

"Andy and Ross batted well together for their crucial partnership.

"Andy's innings in particular was very mature. It was a lot slower than usual but the slow and steady approach was what was needed.

"He completed a fine match by taking five wickets in the second innings and we just about clung on at the end for the win."

The victory saw Billericay move up to fifth in the standings and Knight was happy to again come out on top in a narrow game.

"The past two weeks have been narrow games that we were just on the right side of," said Knight.

"Wins at this stage of the season are just as important as any as the league table starts to take shape so we are happy with back to back wins Billericay batted first and finished their 50 overs on 212/8.

Ross Poulton top scored with 61 while Andy Smith hit 51 and Rob Lee 23 not out.

In reply, Buckhurst Hill fell just short, finishing on 211/9.

Smith took centre stage with the ball as he took five wickets for 21 runs while Darren Ironside, with 2-24, and Poulton, with 2-28, also played key roles as Billericay secured victory.
