SOUTHEND United manager Kevin Bond was pleased with several aspects of the Shrimpers’ clash with Exeter City this morning.

Blues were beaten 2-1 by the Grecians in a behind closed doors friendly this morning, despite another goal from in-form forward Stephen Humphrys.

But Bond was happy with how his side performed.

“It was a good game and there were a lot of positives from our point of view,” said Bond.

“There were a lot of good things to come from it but of course it’s disappointing to lose any game, especially one you’ve pretty much been in control of.

“We gave Exeter one chance and they took it and then they scored a 30 yard rocket which you can’t really legislate for.

“But overall it was a good performance.”

And Bond was pleased with how several members of his Shrimpers side performed.

“Stephen Humphrys got another goal which is great for him and the midfield three of Mark Milligan, Dru Yearwood and Sam Mantom worked well,” said Bond.

“Nathan Ralph played the first half and was excellent and Brandon Goodship did well on the left too.

"Charlie Kelman was excellent when he came too and I was happy with a lot of what I saw."
