ESSEX University Boxing Club member Dan Azeez insists he is focused on the job in hand ahead of his big Southern Area light-heavyweight title clash tomorrow night.

Azeez, who rose to prominence at the Colchester-based amateur boxing club under the guidance of coach Gordon Charlesworth, goes head to head with Charlie Duffield at The O2.

It will be the biggest fight of the unbeaten Lewisham-based boxer's career, as he goes in search of his first title on the back of a record of eight bouts and no losses since turning professional.

Azeez's clash with Canning Town’s Duffield (7-1, 6 KOs) is on the undercard of the Dillian Whyte versus Oscar Rivas contest.

Azeez told MTK Global: “This is going to be like two locomotives colliding. I know enough about him. He’s big and strong but he’s also only got two arms and two legs like my other opponents.

“It’s not so different from other fight weeks in terms of preparations. Obviously you’ve got the public workout, the press conference etc which is a bit different but the goal is the same.

“I’ll stay focused and get the job done. I believe I’m a born fighter regardless of the platform I’m on. All I’m focused on is Charlie and Saturday night.

“I have to thank MTK Global for getting me into this position to challenge for my first title on such a big stage. "We’ll get this out of the way and then MTK Global will decide which route I take.

First thing’s first. I have to do the business this weekend.”
