JOHN Sussex says he will decide whether to keep trialists at Basildon United in the coming days.

Numerous trialists impressed as the Bees beat Epping Town 3-1 in the club’s first pre-season friendly.

A trialist, along with Kurt Smith and Charlie Little, was on target and Sussex has some tough decisions to make.

The Basildon boss said: “Our team was mainly made up of trialists and young players who are with us.

“They gave a good account of themselves so that will give me some difficult decisions to make.

“I will probably have to make my decision over the trialists at the weekend.

“It was a good performance and we could have scored more than three goals.

“There was some good, young talent on display.

“It’s good for the club to have so many young players who are talented.”

The Bees will face Essex Senior League side St Margaretsbury at the Basildon-based Woodlands School tomorrow.

And Sussex is looking forward to the contest, which will involve a heavily-changed side.

“We will have a completely different squad for the game with St Margaretsbury.” added Sussex.

“The starting line-up will be totally different and there will be more first team players involved.

“St Margaretsbury are a decent side in the Essex Senior League and they will be a step above what we faced on Wednesday.

“We should be a stronger team and we have worked really hard in pre-season.

“I’m expecting us to hit the ground running.”
