DANNY Scopes felt there were plenty of positives to come from Concord Rangers’ final pre-season friendly.

A Danny Green brace allowed the Beach Boys to record a 2-2 draw with AFC Telford United at the Aspect Arena.

And Concord boss Scopes was pleased to see his new-look side create numerous opportunities on the counter-attack.

“It was a good challenge and there were lots of positives to take from the game,” said Scopes, whose side will get their National League South campaign underway at Oxford City next weekend.

“Telford will be up there challenging for promotion from the National League North and they have great strength in depth.

“It was always going to be a difficult game, but that is what we wanted.

“We held our own and played on the counter-attack at times.

“The game gave us an opportunity to work on some things before the season starts and we also created some really good chances on the counter-attack.

“That was a real plus point because I expect us to be playing on the counter-attack quite a lot this term.”

Although Telford broke the deadlock midway through the first half, two Green goals in the space of three minutes allowed Concord to turn the contest on its head before the interval.

Telford ensured they would claim a draw by levelling matters five minutes from time.

But Scopes was pleased to see Green return to the scoresheet.

“Greeny did well and he was probably frustrated not to get a hat-trick because he had another opportunity,” added Scopes.

“But he got two goals and that was pleasing because we want more players to be getting on the scoresheet.

“The two goals were very similar and came from great through balls by Joel Nouble.

“It would be great for Greeny if he can go on and get some goals for us this season because he offers a lot.”

However, Scopes was left concerned as Jack Cawley was forced off with an injury.

“There are a few injury concerns,” admitted Scopes.

“Jack Cawley hurt his ribs in the midweek game against East Thurrock United and, although we started him against Telford, he had to come off.

“It was fantastic to be able to give Michael O’Donoghue some time on the pitch. He got 45 minutes at left-back but we will have to manage him as he comes back.

“We will regroup a little bit this week ahead of the new season.”
