SOUTHEND United have signed experienced centre-back Liam Ridgewell.

The 35-year-old has signed a one year deal with the Shrimpers.

And Blues boss Kevin Bond is thrilled to have the centre-back on board.

"Liam's been top drawer as a professional, the way he’s conducted himself, looks after himself, played at the top level,” said Bond.

“He wants to win, will be demanding and I’m absolutely thrilled to have him with us.

“To be honest I didn’t think we would be able to get him, but we have.

“He’s got fantastic experience which is really important for the position he plays."

And Bond is certain Ridgewell will have a big impact at Blues.

“He’s still driven," said Bond.

"He’s in fantastic condition and I’m so pleased to have such a good professional on board."

Ridgewell, who is unlikely to feature for Blues at Coventry City tomorrow, has made more than 400 appearances during his career having previously played for Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, Portland Timbers, Wigan Athletic, Brighton & Hove Albion and Hull City.

The defender's deal with Blues includes the option of a further 12 months.
