LIAM Ridgewell is hoping his experience will be a big boost for Southend United this season.

The 35-year-old centre-back has signed a 12 month deal with the Shrimpers.

And he is keen to make a big impact.

“I’ve played a number of games throughout my career and one thing I can try and do is help people and guide them and hopefully in turn that will help me have a good season,” said Ridgewell.

“I’m really pleased to have joined the club and looking forward to getting started.”

“I had a discussion with the gaffer, we spoke at length, and I hope with the experience that I can bring to the team we can have a successful season.”

Ridgewell has made more than 420 appearances during his career which has seen him spend several seasons in the Premier League.

But he is still hungry to succeed.

“A big conversation I had with the manager was he wants to win and wants to do well,” said Ridgewell.

“I wouldn’t have come here if he didn’t want to do that and the club didn’t want to do that.

“I’m looking to try and help us make sure we win games and make sure that we have a good season and come out with our heads held high.

“It was tough last season but hopefully that will stand us in good stead this year and it will strive people on to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
