ADAM Peek says Southend Manor cannot wait for the new Essex Senior League season to get underway tomorrow.

Manor will welcome Sporting Bengal United to Southchurch Park for the curtain-raiser.

And Peek is hoping to see his side’s preparations pay off.

The Manor boss said: “You work hard in pre-season and it’s long, but this is what you work for.

“We’re excited for the start of the season and we’re looking forward to the first game.

“Our last two performances in pre-season have been much better.

“We beat May & Baker, who have been getting some really good results recently.

“That was our best result and performance of pre-season.

“We have only used players who we think will be in the 16-man matchday squad this weekend in our last two games.

“You never know how the team will progress until the season starts because we only have five or six players who were here last term still with us.

“But we are ready and raring to go.”

Sporting Bengal United head to Southchurch Park following a promising pre-season which ended with a narrow defeat to Basildon United.

And Peek knows Manor face a tough first test.

“They are a good footballing side and have good attacking players,” added Peek.

“There are no easy games in this league and we can’t take any game for granted.

“We have got to go into every game with the same mindset.

“If we are to enjoy a successful season, we need to be consistent and fight for points.

“Pre-season has been good but this is when it really matters in terms of results.”
