SOUTHEND United are keen on signing Heart of Midlothian midfielder Olly Lee, Echosport understands.
The Shrimpers have completed three transfers on the eve of the new season with Liam Ridgewell, Joe Shaughnessy and Andre Blackman all signing.
But Blues are still looking to strengthen and are interested in bringing Lee to the club on loan.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Hornchurch, has been with Barnet, Birmingham City and Luton Town during his career and has also spent time on loan with Dagenham & Redbridge, Gillingham and Plymouth.
Lee joined Hearts in May 2018 but is now deemed to be surplus to requirements.
The midfielder is also believed to have watched Blues during pre-season.
