SOUTHEND United have stepped up their search for a new under 23 team coach.

The position has been vacated by Kevin Maher who left to take up a first team role at Bristol Rovers.

But Blues' academy manager Ricky Duncan is hoping the position will soon be filled.

"We're interviewing for the position in the next few days," said Duncan.

"Hopefully we will have this situation sorted soon."

Echosport understands a former Premier League striker is among those in the running for the job.
