SOUTHEND United’s youth team coach Danny Heath wants his Shrimpers side to learn from the mistakes made against Luton Town on the opening day of the season.

Blues’ under-18 team were beaten 4-2 by the Hatters in the first outing of the new term.

And Heath is keen to see an improvement when the Shrimpers host Peterborough United at Boots & Laces this weekend.

“There were positives from the weekend but the message to the group this week has been to show they have learnt from the mistakes which were made,” said Heath.

“We did really well between the two boxes against Luton but we have to be able to finish more of the chances we’re creating and we must learn to defend better as a team too.

“That’s what I want to see on Saturday.”

But Heath expects Posh to be tough to beat.

“It will be a difficult game,” said Heath.

“They won their first game of the season 3-0 at the weekend so they’ll be on a high but we’re looking forward to it.

“We want to show that lessons have been learnt and make sure we do better as a team.”
