LIAM Ridgewell is edging closer towards his Southend United debut.
The 35-year-old defender joined the Shrimpers just before the start of the new League One season.
And Blues boss Kevin Bond must now decide when to call on the centre-back’s services.
“He’s short (of match fitness) but he’s a wily old fox and a really good professional,” said Bond.
He looks after himself so he’s never in bad shape but he will be short of where he wants to be.
“We will have to see what we think and how we use him in the short-term if we want to use him.”
Blues host Blackpool in League One on Saturday before visiting Stevenage in the League Cup.
