SOUTHEND United defender Rob Kiernan is facing a 'few weeks' on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Kiernan suffered the injury in training ahead of Saturday's League One opener against Coventry City.

And Blues boss Kevin Bond expects the centre-back to be missing for the next few matches.

"There’s a bit of ligament damage in his ankle and he will be out for a few weeks," said Bond.

Kiernan was out for 18 months with knee problems before returning to feature during the run-in last season.
