MARK Bentley is eager for Canvey Island to become the first side to win at Waltham Abbey this season.

The Gulls will visit the Isthmian South Central club for an FA Cup first qualifying round tie tomorrow.

Although Waltham Abbey have emerged victorious in all three of their home fixtures so far this term, Canvey have been in fine form themselves.

Gulls boss Bentley said: “They have won both of their home games so far, so that gives us an extra incentive because we want to be the first team to win there.

“It would be great to break their little run and I have match-winners in my squad.

“Other than our defeat to Bury Town last week, we have been in great form and we want to maintain that.”

While Canvey saw their 100 per cent winning start come to an end against Bury, Waltham Abbey have also suffered just one defeat so far.

Waltham Abbey are currently seventh in the Isthmian South Central standings and Bentley is expecting a tough test.

“It’s a difficult tie for both sides,” added Bentley, who took charge in October.

“We played them in pre-season and, although we got a good win over there, it was not a competitive game so we can’t read into it too much.

“Because of going over there in the summer, we know the facilities they have and it’s a good pitch, so we want to play good football.

“We go there with it being a level playing field.

“We know it will be a really competitive game and we have to go there with the right attitude.”
