WESTCLIFF Lionesses started their season with an impressive 27-20 win against Harlow.
The Lionesses won the NC3 League last term and made a triumphant start to life in NC2 East.
Westcliff opened the scoring early on with a try from Jade Smith before Sophie Scanlon charged through to make it 10-0.
Harlow hit back with an unconverted try of their own before Westcliff replied with Scanlon scoring her second try of the game.
However, another try from Harlow cut Westcliff’s lead to five points at half-time but the Lionesses got back on top after the break with Sophie Sage touching down.
A resilient Harlow again hit back with another try of their own before Westcliff extended their lead with a try from the newly wedded Carla Kraken which Sian Jenkins converted to make it 27-15.
Harlow bagged another try right at the death but by then Westcliff’s opening day success had already been secured.
The Lionesses now travel to Kent next Sunday to play New Ash Green in their second league match of the season.
