JAKE O’Kill feels Southend Saxons have yet to hit top form despite their unbeaten start to the season.

Southend head to Eton Manor in London One North tomorrow having won their first three games of the campaign.

But O’Kill is certain there is still more to come from the Saxons.

“We feel we haven’t really reached our top gear yet and each week has provided us with plenty to improve upon,” said O’Kill.

“The feeling is that this is very much a long term plan not a short term one.”

However, O’Kill has still been pleased with the start to the season.

“As a team we’ve been pleased with our performances so far this year,” said O’Kill.

“Old Habs were a team that got the better of us twice last year, Brentwood have come down from the league above and Old Priorians were a formidable outfit at home last time we played them, so to get the bonus point wins have been very satisfying.”

But, as Southend look to keep the good start going, O’Kill is unsure what to expect against Eton Manor.

“It’s difficult to know what to expect at Eton Manor,” said O’Kill.

“Typically they’ve been known for the tough forwards play but with their season old 4g pitch we know we can expect a bit more of a running game.”

However, O’Kill is keen for second placed Southend to triumph as they bid to stay up towards the top of the table.

“As a group and a club we are hopefully aiming for one of the top spots in league and the chance to challenge for promotion,” said O’Kill.

“A win this weekend will go a long way to showing that intent.

“And the general feeling about the club is that we are building towards a bright future after some incredibly testing times.”
