ROCHFORD Hundred continued their unbeaten start to the London & SE Premier Division season with a 43-27 win against Guernsey.

Rochford, who have still not lost since April 2017, have kicked off the new campaign with four successive victories.

And Adam Ferrier - who was among Hundred’s try scorers in their latest success - remains pleased with the start of the season.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season to be honest,” said Ferrier.

“We still have areas to improve on but we’re definitely going in the right direction.”

Rochford have won back-to-back promotions to work their way to this level for the first time in their history.

But Ferrier believes Hundred are coping well with their latest step up in standard.

“We have noticed the step up but we have all taken it in our stride and soaked the pressure up,” said Ferrier.

“We can more than handle ourselves and have proved that in all our games.”

And Ferrier was pleased to contribute to a 52nd successive win with a try as Rochford look to push for a third consecutive promotion.

“It was good to get the try, albeit just a push over try but let’s be honest they all count,” said Ferrier.

“But our hopes for the season are 100 per cent to look for promotion which looks promising early on.

“However, we’re taking each week as it comes.”

Guernsey opened the scoring with a penalty at the weekend before Rochford hit back with a try from skipper Harry Hudson which was converted by Cameron Greenhall to make it 7-3.

Moments later, some fine attacking play enabled Danny Cleare to touch down for a try which Greenhall again converted.

Guernsey replied with another try before Rochford ran riot towards the end of the first half with Adam Ferrier, Sam Arnott and Cleare all touching down before Guernsey scored one of their own.

Rochford led 29-15 at the break but Guernsey were able to get on top at the start of the second half to cut Rochford’s lead to 29-27.

The visitors were now in the ascendancy but Rochford were able to dig deep and took control through their powerful pack and elusive runners.

As a result, a fine try soon followed when Arnott saw Mark Billings free on the touchline and floated a delicate kick into his path for a well-worked try which Greenhall was again able to convert.

Guernsey came back strongly but the home team’s well drilled defence held firm.

After surviving the spell of pressure, salt was rubbed into the visitors’ wound when Rochford’s replacement scrum half Ricki Gould scored a fine individual try.

Greenhall again added the extras to seal another impressive win for Rochford, who sit second in the table.
