SOUTHEND Saxons’ director of rugby Josh Ward was left feeling frustrated following his side’s 13-13 draw at Sudbury.
Sudbury had a man sent off in the first half but the Saxons were unable to take advantage, much to the disappointment of Ward.
“I think both teams will feel similar after that one and we’re very disappointed with our performance,” said Ward.
“We, as did they, had opportunities to build a score, but it was a scrappy game that was never allowed to get going although I’ll keep my opinions to myself on that topic.”
Joel Armitage scored Southend’s only try of the game.
And Ward was full of praise for the prop forward’s performance.
“Joel was outstanding for us,” said Ward.
“His intent and desire on and off the ball was first class.
“Ultimately as a group we need more from each other.
“We have the talent within our squad - there’s no doubt - had moments in the game where we played some good phases but our unforced error count will need to shrink considerably before we get back registering wins.”
Southend Saxons: Banks, Richards, Nel, Wasley, Inwood, Lloyd, Branch, Smith, Forster-Knight, Armitage, Morrison, O’Kill, Read, Cooper, Wagstaff
