GARY Waddock was ‘embarrassed’ to end his spell as Southend United’s caretaker manager with a 7-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers at Roots Hal tonight.
The Shrimpers – who had new boss Sol Campbell watching from the stands - had Ethan Hamilton and Stephen McLaughlin sent off during the drubbing.
And Waddock admitted the setback had been tough to take.
“We took the lead but it went from bad to worse after that,” said Waddock.
“Against a team of that quality and the way they keep the ball it was always going to be a tough evening.
“But it was very, very embarrassing for us all.
“It’s not too often you go down to nine men and it’s a very difficult situation everyone finds themselves in.
“Thankfully now it’s been resolved and everyone can move forward.”
