JOHN Sussex has called on his Basildon United side to convert their impressive cup form into points in the Isthmian North.

The Bees make the trip to Cambridge City having recorded four wins in their last five outings.

But all of those victories have come in cup competitions and Sussex is keen to climb the Isthmian North standings by triumphing tomorrow.

“There is a good feeling within the group at the moment,” said the Bees chief, whose side are 19th in the standings.

“I think there is a lot of belief in the squad and we are confident that we can win any game no matter who we are playing.

“We’re playing with an attacking system and, although that will leave us a bit exposed at the back on certain occasions, the fans are enjoying the way we are playing.

“I’m going into games believing that we can outscore teams.

“We are an improving side as well and competition for places is getting better.

“Our cup form this season has been fantastic, but we need to start picking up points.”

Darren Phillips is likely to come into the squad following his midweek return from Tilbury.

And Sussex hopes the central defender will play his part as the Bees eye victory.

“Now that we have competition for places due to players returning from injuries and suspensions, this squad is capable of picking up points against anyone,” added Sussex.

“But we have to start proving that in the league because talk is cheap.

“Darren has come in and I’m hoping that will help us because I want us to be a bit more compact at the back.”
