CARETAKER manager Lee Connor admits it will be an odd experience going toe-to-toe with former Basildon United boss Marc Harrison and assistant manager Liam Wallace at Tilbury tomorrow.

Connor has taken temporary charge of the Bees after head coach Glen Kendall was relieved of his duties following just one match in charge last weekend.

Harrison, who celebrated a year as Tilbury’s chief earlier this week, will be eager to secure all three points against his former employers but Connor is keen to frustrate the hosts at Chadfields.

“I spoke to Marc and Liam this week and it will be good to be in the opposite dugout to them,” said Connor, who is also the Bees’ vice-chairman.

“It will be interesting going up against each other because I get on really well with them.

“Marc and Liam are born winners, so they will always get a team together that will excel.

“They have brought in David Knight and Brian Moses recently to improve their team up top, while they have also signed Ryan Mallett and Lee Burns to make them better defensively.

“It will be difficult to beat them but we have to show some spirit and fight.

“Without a doubt, we will be the underdogs going into the game because they are flying at the moment.”

Connor could hand a debut to striker Daniel Olusemo this weekend.

And, with Adam Vyse banned and Harry Doyle stepping up his recovery from a long-term injury, Connor felt welcoming a new frontman to the club was a priority.

Connor added: “I have a couple of friends who are coaches and they recommended Daniel to me.

“I have watched some clips of him and, with Vysey being out for five games through suspension and Harry Doyle only just returning from injury, we needed to bring in a striker.

“Bringing a proven goalscorer into the club at this stage would have been difficult.

“We got the deal for Daniel done and he will be available for the weekend.”

Connor is in temporary charge after Kendall’s reign came to a premature end following a 6-1 FA Trophy second qualifying round loss to Hornchurch last time out.

And Connor insists the Bees will not rush their search for a new permanent boss.

“The main thing for us this week has been concentrating on the Tilbury game,” admitted Connor.

“We need to focus on the football and that is what I am doing at the moment.

“When we do appoint a new boss, we want them to come in long-term and build the club.

“We don’t want to rush our decision again and we will go through a proper process.”
