EAST Thurrock United will be involved in a competitive fixture for the first time in 17 days when they head to Bishop’s Stortford tonight.

Rocks were last involved in an Isthmian Premier League contest when they beat Leatherhead 3-0.

And boss John Coventry is keen to see how his side will adjust to being back in action.

“It’s really difficult when you have two weekends without a competitive game,” said Coventry.

“We have trained normally and not added on any extra sessions, so this is when we will find out whether that was the best thing to do.

“It’s a case of seeing whether I should have got the players in for training more often than I did.”

During their extended break from domestic action, Rocks were put through their paces in a friendly against Essex Senior League table-toppers Hashtag United.

Although the clash saw Matt Price and Danny Harris suffer injuries, Coventry hopes recent recruit Price will be available tonight.

“Matt got injured in the warm-up before the Hashtag friendly after one of his team-mates jumped on his toe,” added Coventry.

“We brought him off after some minutes on the pitch and he said it was painful and restricted him.

“I think we will patch him up and hopefully he will be fine.

“Danny has a hamstring problem, so he might need a bit more rest.

“We took him off early and and he hasn’t torn his hamstring.

“It’s one of those injuries where it’s difficult to tell whether he is ready until he is involved in a game.”
