BILLERICAY Town and Concord Rangers booked their places in the quarter-finals of the Essex Senior Cup at the expense of Basildon United and Great Wakering Rovers tonight.
Jamie O’Hara’s Billericay progressed thanks to a 1-0 win at Basildon.
However, the National League South side had to wait until the final 10 minutes of the contest for the all-important goal and it proved to be a memorable strike as Jake Robinson notched his 100th goal in Billericay colours.
Elsewhere, Concord sealed a comfortable 6-0 victory over Wakering.
A Lamar Reynolds hat-trick put the Beach Boys in the driving seat before Scott High added his name to the scoresheet.
Kit Elliott then slotted home from the penalty spot and the Huddersfield Town loanee completed the scoring with his second goal of the evening.
In the Isthmian Premier League, East Thurrock United suffered a last-gasp 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bishop’s Stortford.
The only goal came in the third minute of injury time, with the vastly experienced Jamie Cureton finding the back of the net from the penalty spot.
Canvey Island ended their Isthmian League Cup campaign on a high as they registered a 4-1 win at Tilbury.
A Joe Burgess own goal put the Gulls in front inside five minutes and Mark Bentley’s side added to their advantage late in the half.
Sam Dulieu notched his first ever goal for the club before James White’s 35-yard free-kick evaded Tilbury goalkeeper Christian North.
Ola Ogunwamide gave the Dockers hope of staging a comeback by netting shortly after the interval, but Tobi Joseph wrapped up the win after coming off the bench.
The result ensured Basildon will go through to the knockout stages of the competition, where they will visit Potters Bar Town.
