BILLERICAY & Wickford Boxing Club’s Max Schultz is celebration becoming national champion.

Schultz won five fights to reach the final where he fought England international Zak Adams from Lancashire.

But Schultz won on a unanimous points decision, much to the delight of his coach Les Cooke.

“I cannot explain how happy I am for Max,” said Cooke.

“It was more than just winning another national title, this was about a young lad showing us all what you can achieve if you really want to.

“Max is a real inspiration to every boxer and coach at our gym.”

But Schultz had extra determination to succeed.

“Max had a special will to win and possibly more determination than I have ever seen from any of our boxers in the past,” said Cooke.

“Max’s dad is unfortunately not very well and he was unable to attend.

“Our whole club was behind Max and was willing him to do well so he could go home and show his dad just how well he has done.

“This young lad has given everything he has over the last 12 months at our gym and was desperate to do his dad proud which he definitely has done.”
