SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell wants Blues to wash away their current mentality.

The Shrimpers are facing a huge fight to avoid relegation.

But Campbell remains determined to get the best out of his players as they bid to bounce back from the 4-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers.

“In football you have to move on but as a team we have to wash out that mentality,” said Campbell.

“It is coming and the first half was fantastic at Bristol Rovers but it was a real Jekyll and Hyde performance.

“We have to learn from those scenarios and when we’re in those kind of situations we can’t let go. We have to get tougher and get into positions earlier.

“It’s game management but we have to learn pretty quickly. We have to turn the tide, get mentally tuned in and keep going.”

The Shrimpers continue to struggle at the back and have still kept just one clean sheet all season. And Campbell is keen for improvements to be made.

“Silly little mistakes seem to be cropping up,” said the 45-year-old.

“We have to be on our toes because we can’t afford to take our foot off the pedal.

“We have to be ready and expect the unexpected too.”
