DAVID Lloyd Southend saw out their 2019 season in style with a number of entertaining clashes on club championship finals day.

Six finals took place on a busy afternoon of action on the tennis courts of the club’s Snakes Lane base.

And racquets manager Jon Lee was impressed by the action which unfolded in front of him.

“The standard this year was amazing,” said Lee.

“There were some really close matches that could have gone either way.

“The atmosphere was electric with a lot of members watching, which really added to the day.

“We had a large crowd watching and supporting their favourite players and friends.

“I’d like to say a big well done to all the players. It’s an achievement just to make the final.”

The club championships had been held throughout the second half of the year with players battling through the rounds to book their place in Saturday’s finals.

And it proved to be an extra special day for the Crawford family.

For not only did Natalie retain her ladies singles title in an epic tie-break but she also won the mixed doubles title, partnering her dad Howard.

Adam Broadway also did the double, winning the men’s singles A and winning the men’s doubles with his playing partner Simon Dowell. And Lee was keen to thank those playing their part.

“A lot of work and effort went into all of this and I must say a big thank you to Keith Fullick and Billy Moore for helping to organise such a smooth running tournament,” said Lee.

“I also need to say thank you to Southend Lawn for the loan for their umpire chairs and to everyone who played in any of the games throughout the year.”
